Sistine Dreaming

When flicking through a magazine, have you ever skimmed past a page then with haste fumbled back to it, thinking to yourself, is that for real? Upon reading an article recently, we found ourselves doing just that.

The piece told us about 'The Sistine Chapel', a three-volume book set released on 1st November 2020, by the Vatican in collaboration with an Italian art publisher. The collection is said to document every inch of the Sistine Chapel's awe-inspiring frescoes.

Our interest piqued, we just had to look this up on the publishers website, where we admit having been intrigued to learn that the books present Michelangelo’s masterpiece in 1.1 life size with 99% colour fidelity... sounds impressive right!

We have, along with many other keen tourists, been lucky enough to see this truly spectacular piece of work in person, and have to admit the idea of viewing it in such detail would be an attractive proposition. But unfortunately, this three-volume set has not been produced for mere mortals, and we doubt if your local library will have it on their shelves either, in-fact only 1999 limited edition copies have been produced. And if you do check out the website be sure not to press the order button unless you have a spare $22,000 to hand!!
